The upper end of that range (350–400 gsm) is appropriate for heavier products or taller carton formats where the side panels need more support against deflection under shelf load.

Gloss lamination maximises colour intensity on shelf — it makes printed colours appear more saturated and reflects light in a way that draws the eye from a distance. Matte lamination produces a more restrained result that is preferred in premium lifestyle, beauty, and wellness retail where high-shine can read as cheap. Pantone spot colour matching is the specification choice for brands where the colour of a key design element — a brand red, a specific blue — needs to be reproduced consistently across multiple print runs and across different box sizes in the same range. Structural Formats for Australian Retail

Straight-tuck end cartons are the most common retail format — they flat-pack efficiently, assemble quickly on packing lines, and present a clean rectangular profile on shelf. Reverse-tuck end formats are specified when the product needs to be loaded from the top rather than the front. Two-piece tray-and-lid formats are used for premium retail applications where the lid-off reveal is part of the customer experience. Hanger formats with a Euro hole or J-hook cutout are required for peg-hook planograms in hardware, pharmacy, and stationery retail.
