Candle packaging is a category where generic box templates consistently underperform. The structural requirements — base strength for glass vessel weight, interior height precision for pillar candles, board grade appropriate for the combined product weight — are specific enough that a standard tuck-end template sized to the approximate dimensions will often fail in one of those areas.

Rigid Candle Boxes need to be engineered around the specific candle format being packaged, not adapted from a general-purpose box template. A 300 g soy candle in a glass vessel sitting in a standard 350 gsm tuck-end box is likely to delaminate or deflect at the base under transit conditions.

Base Construction for Jar Candles — Getting the Weight Right

Glass jar candles combine the weight of the wax with the weight of the vessel — a 300 g finished candle in a standard glass jar typically weighs 400–500 g total. That load sits on the box base through storage, transit, and retail display. Standard tuck-in base construction relies on the friction of tucked panels to maintain the base shape under load — it is not reliable for this weight range. Lock-bottom construction, where the base panels are mechanically interlocked and hold under load without relying on friction, is the minimum specification for glass jar candles over 200 g.

Board weight also matters. 350–400 gsm SBS is appropriate for most candle carton applications. For particularly heavy jars or for rigid box formats where the product sits inside a lid-and-base construction, greyboard (1,200 gsm+) provides the structural integrity the weight requires.
