Standard tuck-in base construction relies on the friction of tucked panels to maintain the base shape under this load — it is not reliable for jar candles over approximately 200 g. Lock-bottom construction mechanically interlocks the base panels at assembly, creating a base that holds under load without relying on friction or adhesive alone.

A 300 g jar candle (including the glass vessel, which might add another 150–200 g) should use a minimum of 400 gsm SBS board with lock-bottom construction. For jars over 500 g total weight, 450 gsm board or a rigid greyboard format (1,200 gsm+) is recommended. The structural engineering of the base and side walls is as important as the board weight — our team specifies both based on the confirmed product weight.

Yes. Interior inserts that cradle the jar within the box are a practical upgrade for candle packaging — they hold the vessel centred and stable, prevent lateral movement during transit, and create a more polished presentation when the box is opened. Foam inserts are the most protective option for glass vessels. Card inserts (folded or formed cardboard cradles) are a cost-effective alternative. For premium candle gift sets, velvet-flocked card inserts create a jewellery-box-style interior that significantly elevates the unboxing experience.

Yes. A die-cut window on the face panel of a candle box lets the jar, its label, and the wax colour be seen without opening the box. This is effective for candle brands where the vessel design or wax colour is part of the retail appeal. Window panels use clear PET film and can be positioned on the front face or on one side panel. The window opening needs to be positioned on a structurally sound panel area — our design team confirms feasibility for your specific box dimensions.

Soft-touch matte lamination is the most requested finish across our candle packaging client base — the velvet-like surface aligns with the premium-lifestyle positioning of most Australian candle brands and photographs well. For artisan and eco-positioned brands, unbleached kraft board with matte aqueous coating or no surface treatment is the default. Gold or copper foil stamping on either substrate is widely used as a signature embellishment. The majority of premium candle brands in Australia use a matte or soft-touch base with foil detailing on the logo or product name.

Yes. Gift sets containing 2–6 candles use a box format with individual card dividers or foam inserts that hold each candle in its own compartment, preventing contact between vessels during transit.
